Suicide Prevention

Suicide Prevention
When a veteran is on the edge, minutes matter. We created Suicide Prevention because too many of our brothers and sisters never got the kind of response they deserved when they reached their breaking point - or never reached at all.

Our first priority is Crisis Intervention. When we get a call that a vet is in trouble, we move fast. That might mean talking them through the next hour on the phone, sending someone they trust to sit with them, or working with hospitals, law enforcement, or shelters to make sure they are not left alone in a dangerous state. We don't just hand out hotline numbers and wish them luck; we stay in the fight as long as it takes to get them to safer ground.

From there, we offer a thorough Suicide Risk Assessment that respects the veteran and their story. We look at what they've been through - combat, losses, addiction, homelessness, family breakdown - and we listen for the quiet signs that things have been sliding for a long time. Using that information, we build a plan that might include housing support, connection to medical care, or one of our in-house programs.

A key part of that plan is Individual Therapy with clinicians who understand military culture and trauma. In these one-on-one sessions, veterans can speak openly about suicidal thoughts, survivor's guilt, or the feeling that their family would be better off without them. There is no condemnation, no shock - just steady, trained support focused on keeping them alive and helping them find reasons to stay.

Suicide Prevention is not about quick fixes or slogans. It is about showing up in the darkest moments, over and over, until the veteran can start to believe a simple truth: their story is not over, and they do not have to carry this alone.
